Memorial Wish

John A. Nardi, Jr. was born on July 18, 1969 to John and Diane (Bunny) Nardi of Narberth PA. Johnny was frail at birth and suffered from a series of respiratory ailments. His condition was diagnosed at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as cystic fibrosis (CF), an inherited disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.

Johnny was protective and loved his younger sister Debbie. He also enjoyed his pet dog a miniature poodle named "Gibip" He attended St. Margaret School and was very active in everything he did. He played CYO football, summer league baseball and was a Cub Scout in Narberth Cub Pack 212.

In 1976, Johnny was the Montgomery County CF Poster Child and had his picture taken with his idol, Mike Boryla, quaterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He also participated in the 1976 Gimbel's Thanksgiving Day Parade and rode on the CF float with comedian/actor Joey Bishop.

Johnny enjoyed life and didn't let his illness slow him down or get in his way from participating in his every day daily activities.

In June 1981, Johnny was hospitalized at Children's Hospital and succumbed to his illness on June 16th, one month before his twelth birthday. In his short life, he made every minute count. He loved everyone and everything. His memory lives on with his family and friends, and the Annual Narberth CF Run.

To honor John and his courageous battle against CF the Take A Breather Foundation will present the John Nardi Jr. Memorial Wish annually to a child with CF who receives care at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
